About Me
My name is Sasha (she/her) and I am a mama, wife, sister, artist, educator, youth justice advocate and lover of music, traveling, life and learning. As a mother, my pregnancy, the birth, and postpartum experience with my first daughter, Luna, was transformational. When she was born in May of 2019, I had a difficult time connecting with her and was carrying the grief that comes with letting go of the woman I was before I became mama. The guilt, loneliness, and sadness I felt in those beginning days of motherhood was confusing. My husband and I did not have a support system that showed up and we were unprepared for what we were experiencing as new parents. I was curious, I was desperate for healing, for connection, for community, for conversation with parents who were experiencing a similar journey.
Motherhood, for me, has been heavy, lonely, exhilarating, powerful, silly, scary, and blissful. I have two daughters, Ruby (1) and Luna (4). Carrying them both in my body, birthing them, and nourishing them with my body, have been the hardest and most beautiful days of my life, as I simultaneously get to know my beautiful daughters and the new person I am becoming since I birthed them.
When I was 5 months postpartum with Luna, I began my healing journey, completing my 200HR and Pre and Postnatal yoga teacher certification. While pregnant with Ruby, I completed my birth doula certification, and began attending therapy to help support me through PPD and anxiety. After Ruby was born, I participated in a MotherCircle facilitated by Kimberly Ann Johnson and Jessica Connolly, where I felt seen for the first time in a long time and the act of witnessing others moved me to my core. Shortly after this experience, I chose to become a certified MotherCircle Facilitator.
I can feel my heart’s compass turning on, sharing space with and supporting people on the journey of motherhood feels good. From the beginning of my motherhood journey, I have felt called to participate, to journey alongside other women in a deeper way. In my life, I am honest and vulnerable in my conversations about motherhood. The work I do with my clients and in the community creates space where you truly feel witnessed. I will help you discover a language for your experiences postpartum and in mothering, through movement and sitting in circle. Together, we will find connections in stories shared that will help make sense of the motherhood journey. When I began sitting in circle and moving my body with other mothers, for the first time in four years, I didn’t feel alone.
Being a mama has helped me love, respect and truly see myself. It has given me the confidence and courage to speak my mind and honor my boundaries. It has reminded me to appreciate every day, love every moment, truly live life, slow down, and be present, even in the moments I feel exhausted, stressed, empty, lonely and unseen. How to truly see, listen and love myself and others, is what parenthood has gifted me.
It is my goal as a yoga teacher, facilitator and doula, to help my client’s find the power, kindness, strength and peace within them so they may bring those qualities into their prenatal, laboring, postpartum and parenting journey. A pregnant, birthing and parenting person should never have to experience this journey alone, and it is my intention to be a part of the village you deserve. A village that supports your journey as you go through this transformational experience and growth, so you may enter into parenthood with the tools and knowledge to feel healthy mentally, emotionally and physically.
